Scope of Work:

  • Conduct hearing assessments and diagnose hearing issues
  • Prepare, fit and dispense basic hearing aids where applicable
  • Provide interventions and solutions for individuals with hearing impairments
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure holistic patient care

Essential Criteria:

  • Audiology degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Expertise in conducting hearing assessments and providing interventions

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, or ability to work with a translator to aid communication

Creative Professional (Photographer, Videographer, Writer) (2 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Capture high-quality photos, videos, or written content during the mission
  • Showcase the impact of healthcare services and humanitarian aid provided
  • Collaborate with the AVCF committee to create engaging materials
  • Contribute to raising awareness and support for AVCF’s mission

Essential Criteria:

  • Professional experience in photography, videography, or writing
  • Ability to capture the mission’s essence and impact
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, or ability to work with a translator to aid communication
  • Familiarity with creating content for social media and promotional materials
  • Previous experience in documenting healthcare initiatives or humanitarian missions

Dentist (8 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Perform dental assessments and minor dental procedures in both children and adults (main focus will be
    paediatric dental care) such as fillings, extractions, scale and clean. Root canal treatment should only be
    performed under highly restricted cases (e.g. anterior in paediatric patient with good prognosis)
  • Prescribe medications where appropriate, taking into consideration Pharmacy’s inventory
  • Provide dental education to patients, emphasising preventive care
  • Collaborate with dental hygienists/assistants for efficient patient care
  • Contribute to oral health awareness initiatives in the community

Essential Criteria:

  • Dentistry degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Ability to provide dental education and treatment

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, or ability to work with a translator to aid communication
  • Experience in paediatric dental care

Dental Hygienist/Assistant (8 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Assist dentists during clinical procedures (e.g. fillings, scale and clean, extractions, suction, instrument
    and material preparation)
  • Manage sterilisation procedures to maintain a hygienic environment (e.g. sterilise and disinfect instruments
    and equipment, prepare trays of instruments)
  • Collaborate with the dental team for efficient patient care
  • Contribute to oral health education programs in the community

Essential Criteria:

  • Dental hygienist/assistant certification
  • Previous experience in dental settings, assisting dentists during procedures
  • Knowledge of dental sterilisation procedures
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, or ability to work with a translator to aid communication

Dental Sterilisation Staff (4 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Manage dental sterilisation procedures to ensure a hygienic environment
  • Maintain and organise sterilisation equipment and supplies
  • Collaborate with the dental team for efficient clinic operations

Essential Criteria:

  • Nil previous experience in sterilisation is required
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of sterilisation procedures and equipment
  • Previous experience in dental sterilisation
  • Ability to maintain a sterile environment in the dental clinic

Medical Practitioner (10 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Conduct 1-on-1 patient assessments of adults and children, including history, examination and management
    plan. Primary patient cohort will be adults.
  • Provide education on common medical problems (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis)
    (Vietnamese translators available if required)
  • Prescribe medications where appropriate, taking into consideration Pharmacy’s inventory
  • Order and interpret investigations (e.g. blood test, ECG, ultrasound)
  • Refer to and collaborate with a diverse team of healthcare professionals including nurses, pharmacists,
    optometrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, audiologists

Essential Criteria:

  • Medical degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Ability to perform general medical examinations
  • Experience in managing acute and chronic conditions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, or ability to work with a translator to aid communication
  • Specialisation in general practice or internal medicine
  • Ability to perform and interpret ECGs
  • Ability to perform and interpret ultrasounds

Nurse (6 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Assist in initial assessments and examinations of both adults and children, including history-taking,
    measuring height, weight, vitals and blood sugar levels
  • Undertake minor procedures (e.g. wound dressings, assist with minor surgical procedures such as abscess
    drainage or suturing, performing ECGs)
  • Provide health education on common health issues to patients and families
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure holistic patient care

Essential Criteria:

  • Nursing degree and valid license (RN and EN applicable)
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Ability to assist in medical examinations and procedures
  • Experience in patient care and education

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese, or ability to work with a translator to aid communication

Occupational Therapist (2 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Conduct occupational therapy assessments and interventions
  • Prescribe free-of-charge mobility equipment, taking into consideration available inventory
  • Demonstrate and provide education on adaptive strategies and assistive devices that will help patients with
    daily living where appropriate
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure holistic patient care

Essential Criteria:

  • Occupational therapy degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Ability to conduct occupational therapy assessments and interventions

Desirable Criteria:

Ophthalmologist (2 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Perform eye examinations and diagnose vision issues
  • Conduct cataract surgeries to restore vision
  • Collaborate with local healthcare professionals
  • Provide eye health education to patients

Essential Criteria:

  • Ophthalmology degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience
  • Expertise in conducting eye examinations and cataract surgeries
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, international team

Optometrist (6 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations for primary care and diagnoses of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy,
    cataract and other eye-related diseases
  • Provide low-vision and binocular coordination consultation and advice for patients with poor vision,
    strabismus, lazy eyes
  • Prescribe and provide corrective lenses to patients
  • Prescribe medications where appropriate, taking into consideration Pharmacy’s inventory
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to address eye health issues
  • Provide eye health education to patients

Essential Criteria:

  • Optometry degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Expertise in conducting eye examinations and prescribing corrective lenses
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of healthcare professionals

Patient Administration/Receptionist (5 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Manage patient registrations and records
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure smooth administrative operations
  • Contribute to the overall efficiency of the mission through effective administration

Essential Criteria:

  • Proficiency in Vietnamese (both written and verbal)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in healthcare administration or reception
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Pharmacist (7 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Screen prescriptions ensuring clinical appropriateness and compliance with medication inventory
  • Dispense prescriptions prescribed by doctors, dentists and optometrists (anticipated workload 1,000
    prescriptions per day)
  • Provide patient counselling on medication use and potential side effects (Vietnamese translators available
    if required)
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal medication management

Essential Criteria:

  • Pharmacy degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of pharmacy experience
  • Ability to dispense medications and provide pharmaceutical advice
  • Knowledge of potential drug interactions and contraindications
  • Strong communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment (e.g. dispensing and checking a total of 250-400 Rx per
    pharmacist per day)

  • Experience in dispensing with Z Software
  • Proficiency in Vietnamese (both written and verbal), or ability to work with a translator to aid

Pharmacy Technician/Assistant (10 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Dispense medications and organise pharmacy supplies (anticipated workload 1,000 prescriptions per day)
  • Assist pharmacists in dispensing process
  • Provide basic patient counselling on dispensed medications
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure efficient pharmacy operations

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong attention to detail and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in dispensing with Z Software
  • Previous experience in pharmacy settings, with knowledge of basic dispensing procedures
  • Proficiency in Vietnamese (both written and verbal), or ability to work with a translator to aid
    communication

Physiotherapist (4 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Conduct 1-on1 physiotherapy assessments and develop individual treatment plans
  • Provide physiotherapy treatment to patients with various conditions
  • Demonstrate exercises that may help improve patient symptoms and function
  • Prescribe and provide free-of-charge mobility aids, taking into consideration available inventory
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure holistic patient care
  • Offer health education on rehabilitation exercises and preventative measures

Essential Criteria:

  • Physiotherapy degree and valid license
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
  • Ability to conduct physiotherapy assessments and provide treatment

  • Ability to improvise with equipment due to limited physiotherapy tools available. Please bring exercise

Translator (10 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Provide translation services for English-speaking health professional volunteers and local Vietnamese
    patients
  • Assist in conveying important health information to patients and families
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure effective communication

Essential Criteria:

  • No formal qualification as an interpreter required
  • Ability to fluently speak in both English and Vietnamese
  • Strong communication skills in both languages

Support Staff (Hospitality, Patient Ushers, Logistics) (12 volunteers)

Scope of Work:

  • Assist in hospitality services for volunteers and patients
  • Serve as patient ushers to guide individuals through the patient flow journey
  • Support logistical aspects of mission operations
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure a smooth mission experience
  • Contribute to creating a positive and supportive environment for all involved

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to various tasks

Desirable Criteria:

  • Modest ability to communicate in Vietnamese (verbal)
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills

Sonographer (1 volunteer)

Scope of Work:

  • Perform ultrasound examinations to diagnose various medical conditions
  • Interpret ultrasound images accurately and communicate findings to the medical team for further assessment and treatment planning

Essential Criteria:

  • Sonography degree with a valid accreditation
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
