AVCF (Australia-Vietnam Charity Foundation) is a pure non-profit charitable organisation, and one of its main activities is an annual medical charity mission to a poor district in Vietnam.

After a 3-year disruption due to the COVID pandemic, in September of this year, AVCF sent a charity mission to Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province.

The charity mission consisted of around 100 volunteers, primarily from various states of Australia, with some volunteers from the United States, Canada, and a few from Vietnam. The team leader was Dr. Phuoc Vo.

This time, the mission included volunteers of all ages from various professions and different fields of expertise. As it was a medical charity mission, there were teams of general practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, nursing staff, physiotherapy specialists, occupational therapists, pathology experts, ultrasound technicians, as well as medical and dental students.

The beneficiaries of this mission were individuals facing difficulties and residing in the Mo Cay Nam district.

With great support from local government authorities and local healthcare agencies, the AVCF charity mission achieved the following significant goals over the course of three days from Wednesday, September 27, 2023, to Friday, September 29, 2023:

• 840 general health check-ups and medication distribution
• 375 dental check-ups and distribution of gifts to children
• 120 eye examinations, providing free prescription and sunglasses.
• 190 physiotherapy treatments
• 266 blood tests
• 20 ultrasound examinations
• 61 cataract operations.
• 120 distribution of 120 hearing aids
• 335 distribution of 335 gift packages (essential supplies) to needy households
• 3,517 prescriptions dispensed and all patients were provided with medication counselling and health education
•  a physiotherapy forum exchanging knowledge and experience with local health care providers
•  motivational counselling and advice to raise health awareness & health literacy to improve self care management and disease prevention.

During their time in Ben Tre, the AVCF charity mission stayed at the Ben Tre Riverside Resort.

Every morning, the team travelled from the hotel to the People’s Committee Hall of Mo Cay District to work until the end of the day. They returned to the hotel to rest in the evenings.

Cataract surgery requires the hospital setting and all cataract operations were performed at the Cu Lao Minh General Hospital. All surgeries were successful, without any complications.

Despite facing challenges and difficulties, all of our AVCF volunteers worked diligently with unwavering enthusiasm throughout the mission.

The volunteers felt a profound sense of happiness from this medical charity mission because:

• the trip was an excellent opportunity to experience the wonderful culture and interact with the local friendly people in Vietnam.
• the trip was like a self-discovery journey, helping them establish deeper connections with life and nature, with themselves & with others and the world around us.
• It was an exceptional opportunity to fulfil their ideal dreams of serving others.

On the final night in Ben Tre, the AVCF charity mission organised a farewell dinner at the “Coconut Hotel” ( Ben Tre Riverside Resort). The purpose of the dinner was for everyone to sit back and relax, share their thoughts and experiences, recognize each other’s efforts and achievements, and acknowledge any challenges encountered during their work, to glean insights and knowledge for upcoming charitable endeavours.

The dinner also provided a chance for everyone to bid farewell to each other before leaving to return to their respective countries (Australia, the United States, Canada).

AVCF expresses sincere and deep gratitude to the People’s Committee of Ben Tre Province, the Ben Tre Friendship Union, the People’s Committee of Mo Cay Nam District, the People’s Committee of Mo Cay Bac District, and all the medical staff of Cu Lao Minh General Hospital for their facilitation and support throughout the mission.

AVCF also extends heartfelt thanks to all the patients, schoolchildren, teachers, and those in difficult circumstances who participated and created the opportunity for the AVCF charity mission to serve.

AVCF sincerely appreciates the contributions of all the volunteers who joined us on this mission. Their self-reliance in covering their travel, transportation, and accommodation expenses during the charity mission reflects their true spirit of generosity and compassion. Your contribution is a great honour for AVCF.

Là 1 tổ chức từ thiện phi lợi nhuận thuần tuý, 1 trong những hoạt động chủ lực của hội từ thiện Úc-Việt AVCF là chuyến đi từ thiện y tế đến 1 huyện nghèo ở Việt Nam hàng năm.

Sau 3 năm gián đoạn vì đại dịch Covid, tháng 9 năm nay, AVCF đã gửi 1 đoàn từ thiện về huyện Mỏ Cày Nam, tỉnh Bến tre.

Đoàn từ thiện có khoảng 100 thiện nguyện viên, chủ yếu từ các bang khác nhau của nước Úc. Một số thiện nguyện viên đến từ Mỹ , 1 số từ Canada, 1 số từ Việt Nam. Trưởng đoàn là bác sĩ Võ Văn Phước.
Lần này , đoàn có rất nhiều thiện nguyện viên ở mọi lứa tuổi đến từ nhiều ngành nghề & những lĩnh vực chuyên môn khác nhau.
Vì là đoàn từ thiện y tế nên dĩ nhiên đoàn từ thiện có những đội ngũ y bác sĩ đa khoa, nha sĩ , dược sĩ, điều dưỡng y tá, các chuyên gia vật lý trị liệu, chuyên gia hoạt động trị liệu (occupational therapist) , các chuyên gia xét nghiệm máu, kỹ thuật viên siêu âm, & các sinh viên y khoa & nha khoa.

Đối tượng phục vụ là các đồng bào có hoàn cảnh khó khăn đang cư ngụ, sinh sống trong khu vực của huyện Mỏ Cày Nam.

Được sự hỗ trợ nhiệt tình của chính quyền địa phương, các cơ quan chức năng & cơ quan y tế địa phương, trong 3 ngày từ thứ tư 27/9/2023 đến thứ sáu 29/09/2023, đoàn từ thiện AVCF đã hoàn thành những mục tiêu quan trọng sau đây:

• 840 ca khám bệnh tổng quát & phát thuốc.
• 375 ca khám chữa răng & phát quà cho các trẻ em.
• 120 ca khám mắt, phát kính cận & kính mát miễn phí
• 190 ca điều trị vật lý trị liệu.
• 266 ca xét nghiệm máu.
• 20 ca siêu âm.
• 61 ca mổ cườm Phaco.
• 120 tặng 120 máy trợ thính.
• 335 tặng 335 phần quà nhu yếu phẩm cho các hộ nghèo.
•   buổi hội thảo trao đổi kiến thức về chủ đề Vật lý trị liệu.
•   tư vấn, động viên khích lệ mọi người nâng cao kiến thức về sức khỏe, học cách chăm sóc sức khỏe tốt hơn & đề phòng bệnh tật.

Trong thời gian làm việc tại Bến Tre, đoàn từ thiện AVCF đã nghỉ tối ở khách sạn Dừa ( Ben Tre Riverside Resort).

Mỗi buổi sáng , đoàn đã từ khách sạn này di chuyển đến Hội trường uỷ ban nhân dân thị trấn Mỏ Cày làm việc đến chiều . Sau đó cả đoàn về khách sạn nghỉ ngơi.

Mổ cườm thì cần bệnh viện và các bệnh nhân đã được mổ cườm tại Bệnh Viện Đa Khoa Cù Lao Minh. Tất cả các ca mổ đã thành công, không có biến chứng.

Tất cả các thiện nguyện viên AVCF đã không ngại gian khổ khó khăn & đã hăng hái làm việc tận tâm trong suốt chuyến đi.

Các thiện nguyện viên đều cảm thấy hạnh phúc vì chuyến từ thiện y tế này chính là:

• cơ hội tuyệt vời để trải nghiệm văn hoá, đất nước và con người Việt Nam ,vốn rất thân thiện và hiếu khách.
• hành trình đi tìm ý nghĩa cuộc đời, giúp họ kết nối sâu sắc hơn với sự sống, với bản thân & tha nhân, với con người và cuộc đời.
• cơ hội tuyệt vời để thực hiện ước mơ lý tưởng phụng sự tha nhân.

Đêm cuối cùng ở Bến Tre, đoàn từ thiện đã tổ chức 1 buổi dạ tiệc chia tay ở khách sạn Dừa.

Mục đích của dạ tiệc là để mọi người ngồi lại với nhau, thư giãn, tâm sự chia sẻ ,đánh giá, ghi nhận những kinh nghiệm , những nỗ lực, những thành quả đã đạt được cũng như những khó khăn thử thách nếu có, trong suốt quá trình làm việc với nhau để rút kinh nghiệm cho những chuyến từ thiện sau này.

Dạ tiệc cũng là cơ hội để mọi người nói lời chia tay tạm biệt nhau trước khi lên đường trở về nước ( Úc , Mỹ, Canada).
