The 2017 AVCF mission to villages in Ngoc Hoi district in Kontum Province, Vietnam in the first week of August has been an outstanding success, thanks to the tireless efforts of a dedicated team of medical, dental and allied health professionals.

The team – consisting of GPs, dentists, nurses, ophthalmologists, pharmacists, Lab technicians, physiotherapist and a couple of us civilians – from Vietnam, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Canada and USA brought much- needed aid to more than 3,000 local people.

With funding provided by the generosity of the Australian community, especially the Vietnamese community in Australia, we achieved the following amazing results –

• 515 Eye examinations
• 93 cataract operations
• 300 humanitarian gift packs donated to impoverished families
• 1200 education and hygiene packs distributed to disadvantaged children
• 1515 medical examinations as well as 83 ultrasound procedures and 130 blood tests
• 150 hearing aids provided to deaf patients
• 1471 dental patients examined and more than 2000 treatments provided
• 5204 medical prescriptions have given to patients
