Letter from the Chairman

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Supporters,

I am writing this letter to seek your donation to help with victim or recent typhoon in Vietnam.

Damrey, the strongest typhoon in 16 years has made landfall on Vietnam’s south-central coast on 4th November 2017. The powerful storm has caused at least 106 deaths, more than 200 missing that presumed death. It caused significant damage to households, crops, livestock, environment and health.

Strong winds of more than 200 kph with gusts were reported to have sunk more that 1400 fishing vessels – mostly small fishing boats off the coast of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa Provinces. Nearly 2000 houses was total damage and more than 80000 homes have structural damages reported in other areas. Most of the livestock, poultry were lost and rice fields, vegetable gardens, fruit land were destroyed. The loss is enormous.

People in those affected areas are suffered from high risk of hunger, sickness while try to get shelters to rebuild their lives. There are increasing risk of cholera, malaria and other diseases.

AusViet Charity Foundation has identified two areas that it can provide temporary reliefs for the victims of Damrey’s typhoon. These are Nam Tra My District of Quang Nam province and Van Ninh District of Khanh Hoa province. Our plan is to provide basic food rations, mosquitoes nets, medicine and hygiene items for families and to consider to help to build shelters for families that suffer the most.

Our volunteers are currently in those area and working with local medical teams to asess and proved primary care for the victims.

During last two years we helped with disaster relief. In 2015 we donate food parcels for families in Quang Nam. We built 4 floating houses for families in Quang Binh 2016. Recently we distributed more than 300 food parcels, water filters and medicine for victim of typhoon in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
